Dedicated server launch settings

From Vellocet Developer Community

ANEURISM IV and Grimwar use the same startup names for server name, initial map, player limit, and join password. Each game keeps its own map catalog, capacity limits, saved-world format, and live console commands.

Use the dedicated executable and data-directory setup from ANEURISM IV/Dedicated servers or Grimwar/Dedicated servers.

Common startup options

Setting Source-style spelling Traditional alias
Server name +hostname "My server" --hostname
Initial map +map <map-id> --map
Player limit -maxplayers 32 --max-players
Join password +sv_password "secret" --password

Shared aliases are included in the updated Grimwar official-server build and Steam candidate. Steam's default branch gains them when that candidate is promoted. Older Grimwar releases use the traditional aliases above. ANEURISM IV support is prepared for its next game update; its current preview uses the environment setup in ANEURISM IV/Dedicated servers.

Options are case-insensitive. A single hyphen, double hyphen, or legacy slash prefix works. Separate the option and value, or join them with =. Quote a value containing spaces when launching from a shell. A value beginning with -, +, or / must use the inline form, such as "+hostname=+Night server".

Set each option once. Repeating a setting through another alias is an error. Missing values, control characters, and invalid player counts stop startup. The shared limit is 1–256 players; each game applies its own lower maximum or mode policy. ANEURISM IV community servers accept 2–60.

An empty +sv_password= clears a password inherited from configuration. Passwords preserve spaces and allow up to 64 characters. Prefer an owner-readable configuration or hosting secret field for persistent passwords; command-line values can be inspected by users with sufficient machine access.

Precedence and restarts

For community servers, explicit startup options take precedence over the game's configuration and defaults. The selected name, initial map, limit, and password are resolved together before startup.

The upcoming ANEURISM IV update reads hostname, map, maxplayers, and sv_password from aniv.cfg. Its existing ANIV_* environment settings override that file, and explicit startup options override the environment. See ANEURISM IV/Server configuration.

Grimwar keeps its configuration layers, map rotation, and mode policy. Its explicit launch settings override the corresponding startup values. Shared startup options do not make the two games' configuration-file execution or live console behavior identical.

Restart after changing startup settings. Changing the initial map does not change a saved rotation, transfer a saved world, or schedule a live map change.

Nexus-managed servers

Set the server name, initial map, and player limit in their Nexus fields. Use Additional arguments for other options supported by that game. Enter one argument token per line, without surrounding shell quotes. For example, a password with spaces occupies one line:

-password=two words

Additional arguments cannot override the core fields, provider ports, or process/log controls. Saving changes updates the next deployment. Nexus displays them as pending until the next start or restart; the current server and its public password indicator continue to describe the active deployment. Emptying Additional arguments clears its saved values.

A game adapter advertises which management features its deployed version supports. A new Nexus UI does not make an older game server understand additional options.
