ANEURISM IV/Hosting from the game

From Vellocet Developer Community

Hosting from the game lets you play on the same computer that runs the server. Keep the game and Steam open for the whole session. For a server that stays online after you leave, use a dedicated server.

Start a session

  1. Open the Developer menu from the main menu. You can also open the game console and enter devmenu.
  2. Choose a map and enter a server name.
  3. Set who can join, choose a player limit from 2 to 60, and add a password if you want one.
  4. Select Start server and wait for the map to load.

The name, map, player limit, and visibility choice are saved for your next session. Enter the password again when you host a new session.

Who can join How players find you
Anyone Your server appears under Community in the server browser.
Friends Steam friends can join. The server isn't listed publicly.
Invite only Invite players through Steam. The server isn't listed publicly.

New hosts default to Anyone. Check the visibility setting before starting a private session.

Invite players

For a public session, ask players to refresh Community and select your server. For a private session, use Steam's friends list or overlay to invite them. Give invited players the password if you set one.

Use matching game versions. If someone sees Version mismatch, update the host and player installations and check their Steam beta selections. See Version mismatch.

Manage your session

The Steam account that first hosts a new saved world becomes its owner. Join with that same account when you host the world again. Use the administration commands to assign staff, manage bans, or change the current password.

Saved worlds and settings use the game's data directory. See Data directory before changing files or making a backup. Hosting a different map should use a separate data directory.
